About Tom Atkins
Tom Atkins is a an artist, photographer, poet and writer based in West Pawlet, Vermont. His work has been featured in magazines, books, advertisements, marketing materials, galleries, shows and private collections.
Atkins began creating art over thirty years ago, focusing on drawings - pen and ink, and pencil. Highly detailed, this work features castles, old buildings and landscapes, and surreal fantasy.
His watercolors however, go in an entirely different vein. "My watercolors are like poems" says Atkins. "They are designed to capture an idea or feeling more than portray a specific place, person or thing. The challenge is to make the abstract tell an emotional story that is accessible to everyone, to cause something inside the viewer's heart to sing."
Much of Atkins' photography is focused on technology, historical and spiritual spaces, as well as landscapes and art photography. Besides selling individual prints here and in galleries, Atkins is often commissioned by architects, magazines, manufacturers, systems integrators and others.
Besides his art work, Atkins is a notable designer of technology systems for television, AV and media centric IT. He has been a key element in three successful technology start-ups, overseeing sales and marketing, work he continues on a free lance basis.
